AN INTRODUCTION TO LAWN BOWLING
SATURDAY, MAY 13, 2017
I WANT YOU TO
BE A LAWN BOWLER
We held our Lawn Bowl Club Open House
on May 13Th as did most of the other Lawn Bowl Clubs throughout the South
West Division. This annual effort is held in hopes of attracting
new people to the sport of Lawn Bowling.
We had 10 visitors participating in trying their hand at delivering bowls and learning the basics about the sport of bowls. This was only about one third of the turnout we had from last year. Several of our members couldn't attend because of family Mother's Day activities. We may decide to pick another weekend without this Mother's Day competition next year.
We followed the Open House program that Newport Harbor Lawn Bowls Club developed and it worked well for us last year but not so much this time.

After a brief introductiion our visitors are brought to our registration table to
sign in. From here they are taken to meet a club instructor where they
are given an opportunity to roll a few bowls.
This is our club information table. After rolling a few bowls they are given information about the club and the sport of bowls. If they are interested in having lessons Jordan Austin arranges for the lessons on a schedule that suits them.
This is a demonstration game going on so our guests can see what a game of bowls looks like.
Ron Zenone is giving instruction to our guests Dick and Tina. Julie Basler (next to Ron) is a neighbor of Dick and Tina and told them about the sport.
Joe Brown helping Phyllis and Mark with the basics before they give it a try.

Jordan Austin jokingly trys to persuade our members to volunteer for a half hour each to flip the sign out in front at the street to attract people to come in to the Open House. Sorry Jordan, no takers!
