Jacob Ziv, 87, died on June 30, 2009 after a period of declining health. He was born Kalinski Pienica in Lodz, Poland in 1922.  In 1946 the family changed their name and he became Jacob Ziv.  During his lifetime he lived in Israel, France, Palestine, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and finally Oxnard.  During WWII, he performed combat duty for the British in North Africa, Italy and Germany and was awarded various war medals.  In 1945, he graduated from the Royal Military College at Sandhurst with the rank of Second Lieutenant.  After moving to Los Angeles he enrolled in UCLA  where he met Sybil Schwartz.  They were married in 1948 and enjoyed 61 years together.  From their marriage came three sons; Jonathan, Thomas and Oren.  Jacob earned a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from UCLA in 1951.  He worked for 30 years for S.E. Rykoff & Co. as a sales executive in the food service industry.  Jacob had taken up lawn bowling just three years ago.  He picked up the skills of the sport quickly and had many enjoyable days on the green with all his many new friends.
