County Star and the October 15th Memorial Service Program are presented below. Oxnard Fylis F. Robertson ![]() Fylis Faye Fernandez was born in Santa Monica on March 26, 1921, to John Fernandez and Maye Collins. She majored in Spanish at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), graduating summa cum laude, then began a long and rewarding teaching career with the Los Angeles Unified School District. Fylis taught fifth and sixth grades at Los Felix, Virginia Road, Kittridge, and Montague elementary schools. While at Hollywood High School, Fylis met her husband, Hobart J. Robertson. They would not marry for more than a decade, but their enduring union in 1949 would last 56 years, until her death. They produced three sons, Brent (Elena), Brian (Lori), and Bruce (Su). They also had eight grandchildren: Ian, Shannon, Hannah, Sean, Gretchen, Cody, Bailey, and Sienna. Grandma was very proud of them all. Fylis' life was grounded in service, made full by charity and adorned by love. Her later years were spent working in food banks, teaching and tutoring the underprivileged, and serving as a docent at the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage. Fylis loved her family and friends. All of our lives were made fuller by her. A memorial service for Fylis will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at North Oxnard Methodist Church, 2300 W Gonzales Road, Oxnard, CA 93030; phone 1-805-485-0778. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Oxnard Methodist Church, the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, or to the City of Hope. |
