IN MEMORY of

Ken Barrabee

 May 8, 1931 - March 9, 2006

Kenneth H. Barrabee
1931 - 2006

Kenneth H. Barrabee, 74, beloved husband, father, and "cool" grandpa, died peacefully, with his family by his side on March 9, 2006.

Ken was born in Boston, Mass., on May 8, 1931. He attended Boston Latin School, and University of Pennsylvania, and received a Masters of business administration from Harvard Business School in 1954.

He met Libby Lesches at camp in 1952, and they were married in June of 1954. After his two years of service in the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, they moved to Los Angeles where he started his professional career in the field of contract administration.

After a time with Marquardt Corporation and Litton Industries, he joined the System Development Corporation, now Unisys, where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

During his retirement, Ken became busier than ever. His interests included lawn bowling with the Oxnard-Joslyn Bowls Club, where he served as president, as well as chief hot dog chef. Ken also has been an active member of the scholarship review committee of the Ventura County Community Foundation, as well as the Neighborhood Watch, Oxnard Commission on Aging, Ventura County Area Agency, and the Ventura Maritime Museum. He and Libby enjoyed travel, attending the theater, opera, and symphony.

Libby, his wife of 51 years; his children, Ellen, Steve, and Suzee; son-in-law, Gino; daughter-in-law, Terry; and his grandchildren, Alanna, Leah, and Lauren, will have wonderful memories of family vacations, traditional Thanksgiving dinners, and the Elderhostel trips he made with the grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and all his friends and neighbors, whose lives he touched. He was a wonderful person, known for his infectious laugh, friendly demeanor, and unique ability to chat with everyone he met. Most of all, we will miss the "world champion" cribbage player.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ventura County Community Foundation, Barrabee Family Fund, 1317 Del Norte Road, Suite 150, Camarillo, CA 93010, or www.vccf.org. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9, at the Wedgewood Banquet Center, 5880 Olivas Park Drive, Ventura.
